Chevrolet Volt in 2011

The five-door compact hatchback 2011 Chevrolet Volt is GM’s first electric car. It provides 40 miles of battery range, plus a further 300 miles from a gasoline engine-generator that sends power directly to the car’s motor. It represents a major advance over gasoline-electric hybrids like the Toyots Prius, and its major competition is likely to be the Nissan Leaf, the all-electric hatchback with a 100-mile range, along with a plug-in hybrid version of the Toyota Prius, which is expected to go on sale for the 2012 model year. The Volt hasn’t yet been priced, though estimates hover around $40,000, but buyers will be eligible for a $7,500 Federal tax credit.

The Volt was unveiled—to wide public acclaim—as a concept car at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, and the first examples will reach dealers in November or December 2010. Only 10,000 or so will be built for the 2011 model year, and perhaps 60,000 a year thereafter. It uses some of the same mechanical elements as the upcoming Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan, but only the Volt has a lithium-ion battery pack located in the tunnel between the front seats and extending under the rear seat. It drives entirely like a “normal car,” although without any transmission shifting noises, and like most electric cars, its acceleration from a stop is brisk and continuous.
As a brand-new model, the Volt comes only in a single body style, and the few option choices aren’t yet final. No sunroof is available, and the only exterior option will be a choice of silver paint or polished chrome on the five-spoke 17-inch wheels. Inside, a navigation system can be integrated into the dashboard stack, and two-tone leather upholstery can be specified rather than the standard cloth. Heated seats will also be offered. The car comes with the necessary charging cord to plug it into a standard wall outlet, and recharging the pack will take roughly five hours.
The EPA hasn’t yet decided how to rate the gas mileage of a car that runs significant distances purely on electricity from the grid. Some drivers may never use the gasoline engine, meaning their gas mileage approaches infinity. Others might drive more than 40 miles every day, using the gasoline engine once they have depleted the battery. So it’s worth taking any “mileage” figures for the Volt with a large grain of salt. As they say, “your mileage may vary” depending on how you use a car like the Volt. It’s also important to note that the Volt is often called a plug-in hybrid, because it has two energy sources. But unlike plug-in versions of conventional hybrids, the Volt is powered solely by electricity. Even if the “range extender” gasoline engine switches on, it doesn’t turn the wheels mechanically. Instead, it turns a generator that provides power to the electric motor driving the front wheels

Vauxhall VXR8 in 2011

The previous Vauxhall VXR8 representing the old version of the lower-spec ClubSport R8, the new VXR8 is now based on HSV E3 GTS model, just launched in Australia. The new are packing heavily revised front- and rear-end styling, a new cabin and a raft of new technology to enhance its appeal to drivers in search of one of the last, great rear-drive V8 super-saloons.

The styling design get ‘Shockwave’ grille, LED daytime running lights and sleek new wing-vents mark the new car out from the front, while the rear features a new ‘Superflow’ rear spoiler, LED tail lamps and twin exhaust tips that mimic the shape of the front grille.

The new Vauxhall VXR8’s race-bred chassis uses MacPherson struts/progressive rate coil springs at the front and a multi-link independent set-up at the rear. But for the first time on a VXR8, Vauxhall has employed Magnetic Ride Control (MRC), a suspension system which adapts up to 1000 times a seconds to road conditions and driver inputs.
Based on technology used in GM’s current Corvette ZR1 supercar, MRC works by sending an electric current through damper units filled with ’soft’ magnetic particles. These particles harden as the input reaches its maximum value, providing drivers with exceptional levels of ride, handling and stopping power.
It is equipped MRC is Launch Control, which is engaged when drivers select the ESC’s (Electronic Stability Control) Competition Mode. The system dictates the level of torque delivered to the rear wheels for maximum acceleration, according to surface conditions. All the driver has to do is floor the throttle and let the car do the rest.
2011 Vauxhall VXR8 powered by fourth generation 6.2-litre LS3 unit produces 431PS and a massive 550Nm of torque, enough to propel the VXR8 from 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a governed top speed of 155mph. As before, drive is delivered to the rear axle via either a six-speed manual or auto transmission, working through a mechanical limited slip differential.

At the touch of the screen, drivers can access a variety of data such as vehicle G-forces, power and torque and lap times – even the degree to which their Vauxhall VXR8 is drifting. Completing the clever package is the ability for drivers to download data, such as track day performance, and analyse it using the MOTEC i2 software provided.

The Ferrari Enzo, named after the Ferrari's owner, is a high performance sports car which is well noted for its styling features. Initially, the Ferrari Enzo cost $670,000 and only 399 units were ever produced, but due to its high demand and limited supply, the price of the Ferari Enzo increased every time someone crashes and it is currently estimated at over $1,000,000.

The body of the Ferarri Enzo is made of carbon fiber, as a result, the car is of less weight. The car features aerodynamic subsystems for better safety and performance. It is also equipped with active suspension for comfort riding in the sports mode.

The Ferrarri Enzo features a V12 engine with four valves per cylinder. The engine displacement is about 4700 cc and it delivers an output power of 660 bhp and 485 lb-ft torque. The Ferrari Enzo reaches the speed of 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and the top speed is about 217 mph. The Ferrari Enzo features 6-speed Semi-Automatic transmission and the gear shifts can be performed easily and smoothly even at higher loads.

2012 Ferrari F70 Enzo On The Road

Ferrari will introduce a special series named, Ferrari Enzo. The cars have been announced by Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne at a press conference. Ferrari is focusing on reducing the next generation Enzo’s mass in an attempt to increase speed and handling without necessarily having to force more air and fuel into the F70’s combustion chambers. The F70 will be based around a compact footprint and weigh in at no more than 1,000 kilograms.

The engine the latest word is that the F70 will go possibly with a twin-turbo V8. Only the F70′s direct-injected engine will use the very latest technologies to eliminate turbo lag, achieve 670-700 bhp yet return excellent (for a Ferrari) fuel mileage and low emissions. A hybrid powertrain seems to be unlikely for the F70. The F70 should reach 60 mph in less than 3 seconds. The car with a wheelbase of 104.3 inches and a raft of active aerodynamics on board, the F70 will weigh around 2,200 pounds and will look different from any other model.

The Ferrari F70 goes on sale in 2012, it could very well cost over $1 million.

According to Road&Track, there are some ambitious plans for the successor of the Enzo. The Italian supercar maker plans a mid-engine supercar with only one goal; outperforming the Enzo in combination with being considerably more efficient to comply with emissions standards. So that means less weight, smaller engine and a more compact setup.

They do expect extensive use of carbon fiber on the vehicle achieving the ultimate performance. The target weight for the rumoured F70 is around 1000kg.

Regarding the engine the latest word is that the F70 will switch back to a twin-turbo V8. Only the F70’s direct-injected engine will use the very latest technologies to eliminate turbo lag, achieve 670–700bhp yet return excellent (for a Ferrari) fuel mileage and low emissions. A hybrid powertrain seems to be unlikely for the F70. The F70 should reach 60mph in less than 3 seconds. The target top speed of over 230mph is reached using an array of drag-reducing active aerodynamic features.

This information follows after rumours going around for some months now. We have to wait and see until more information is being unveiled, however the setup seems to be promising.

It’s now been almost six years since the Enzo supercar first entered production, during which time Ferrari has released a number of new models and technologies. More recently we’ve seen the introduction of the California GT and 458 Italia, along with the automaker’s first dual-clutch transmission, as well as the peculiar FXX Millechili concept, but coming up on the horizon is the model we’ve all been waiting for--the successor to the Enzo.

The Enzo successor is reportedly being called the F70 within Ferrari and is being tested with two very different powertrains. One option is a smaller twin-turbo V-8 engine said to be outputting around 700 horsepower and the other is a twin-turbo V-12 unit with an additional 50 to 100 horsepower.

While Ferrari would like to keep a V-12 engine for its new flagship model, tough emissions standards planned for Europe may end up causing engineers to add the smaller twin-turbo V-8 to the car, essentially making it the true successor to the original F40, which was powered by a similar engine set-up.

Furthermore, the F70 will not only be faster and more agile than the Enzo that it replaces, but it will also be smaller, lighter and more fuel-efficient as well.

With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches and a raft of active aerodynamics on-board, the new car is expected to look very different to any other Ferrari, and its total weight will only tip the scales at around 2,200 pounds.

Production is expected to start in 2012 and just like the Enzo only 399 examples are expected to be made.
